Let’s imagine, just for a moment, that an entire district suddenly casts off from its place in the established social geography and sets off in a new direction… What happens to a place when the winds of curiosity and imagination fill its sails and drive it forward toward new and unexpected adventures?
The district of Lorensberg was once a cultural hub in Gothenburg and Scandinavia, and home to several important institutions for art, culture, and education. But in the creation of any center, a periphery is also born – along with a system that determines which bodies, images, and words are allowed to exist in that space. With the founding of the culture- and fairy tale-inspired Principality of Lorenzburg, the west coast gains its very own monarchy. We always stand for everyone’s right to cultural experiences, learning, and personal growth. And, of course, everyone’s right to dream and imagine!
We use the ancient magic of play to reshape—and rename—the centrally located district of Lorensberg into the independent micronation of Lorenzburg – the Pearl by the Sea!
The Principality of Lorenzburg is, above all, a story. That’s why collective storytelling is at the heart of the project that brings this nation into being.
